Unmuddling through it

My current WIP is in a state of 'Pick up sticks' and my main blog feels too formal to post just whatever is going on. So here I go tossing things up as I can, we'll see what migrates over. The current WIP is a merger of 3 major series (Mists of Magic, Gryphon Throne, and Marachmoore, all names, especially the last one, temporary.), 2 minor storylines (Rise of the Vykhalin, and Candle in the Dark, the latter being set 1000 years before the others in the lands just south of Marachmoore amongst the people who would become Marachi) The Marachmoore series is looking to be a duology and, tentatively a trilogy. I have the bones of the duology worked out. Honestly, it's been flogging me for years and I may be finally falling into place... slowly. This is my current primary focus.

For this year, my goal for Get Your Words Out is a habbit goal: 10 days a month. My project goals are bit more extensive.

1) Get freedcamp set up with the basics of what I need to do and keep it updated as I go.
2) Get the story bible for Marachmoore done.
3) Overall get the world bible for Ayredan (the world all three of these series) begun, and start pulling in information from all three series. Especially hashing out how magic works so it can be consistent throughout on the background information, even if the characters don't know as much as they think they know.
4) Finish a full draft of Sons of Duty (The first of that duology mentioned above.)
5) Finish a full draft of Daughter of Truth (The second of that duology.)
6) Get both off to Alpha readers.
7) MAPS! Because for so much of this where things are matters. And matters a lot. (Also... horses are not cars. This affects travel times. Such things must be considered in timetables.)

World and story bibles are going to be done in ZimWiki. Most of the drafting done in Dabble and see how it goes.

Part of the worldbuidling headache, other than the magic, is with this many series in the world I need to make each part of the world feel distinct rather than just fully winging it. So there's a lot of world building to do. And I'm starting with Languages. Specifically getting myself to the language of the Big Bad Empire in the series. Because they're rather like Rome or China in how much they influence the world around them, I figured that was a good way to start. Also, since I'm a novice Conlanger, it will let me screw up on something that's 'safer' than languages from my main cultures. (Though there's an idea or three brewing in the Empire itself. We'll see how that goes. The history of that region is likely to be story fodder for many years to come.)

My next post will be a bit about the language families I have, as I currently have them. (Note, all of this is going into ZimWiki as I type it up so we'll see how it goes.) The biggest thing is to kickstart myself and make forward progress, though I'll probably also be attempting Draft 0's in April and July just to keep things going.

Declaration of Purpose

So... this is mostly for my own benifit to remind me why I've got this place and what purpose it serves. This is my 'mostly for me and very informal' kind of website. I've got a formal (sadly neglected at the moment) blog, but currently I feel anything that goes there should be professional. Here I can be a little messy and probably have somethings that start here and go there in a more coherent format.

Goal for the coming year: Consistent work habits! (Not to be confused with consistently working hobbits)

Things I want to accomplish with that goal:
Finish two novels to the point I can send them to Betas. The novels are "Sons of Duty" and "Daughter of Truth" and form (hopefully) a relatively tightly related duology.

Build the World Bible for this world in preparation for the other series that will take place here. There is much to reconcile. This includes timelines, languages, and a lot of world building.

Get a production schedule hashed out. That'll happen over on freedcamp, not here, though echoes of it will be seen here.

Short Story a week for a year. This is a practice exercise. I'm trying to master the form, or at least start mastering the form. Writing short is difficult for me, but there's a lot I can learn from writing short.

Make significant progress on a serialized novel for my website. Gaslamp world.

So Those are the goals and the ramblings will go here I think.
